Chinar received his Masters in Biotechnology from the University of Pune. Here at Georgia Tech in his 5th year now, Chinar aims to uncover the genetic basis of innate mating behavior in bower building cichlids from Lake Malawi. He has sequenced a large set of species from the lake and uses comparative genomics to look for regions of the genome that separate the bower building trait among the Lake Malawi cichlid species. He likes to divide his spare time either reading or playing Badminton or watching Cricket. He has dabbled in writing and acting in theatre before, but audiences everywhere were relieved when he decided to focus on biology instead.
